Each year during the lovely season of the Advent and Christmas, the “European Christmas” festival offers audiences a chance to enjoy the holidays with the lively music of Bach, Handel, Mozart and other classical composers, along with traditional Christmas carols and melodies arranged in jazzy sounds.

The “European Christmas” festival will be held from December 9 to 30, with Sinfonietta Rīga, the Latvian Radio Choir, the Latvian Radio Big Band, the Framest vocal group, soprano Inga Kalna, who is renowned throughout the world as an opera diva, the virtuoso organist Iveta Apkalna, the charming and charismatic accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, one of Latvia’s most outstanding acoustic guitar performers, Kaspars Zemītis and other artists appearing.

The countertenor Sergejs Jēgers will perform various versions of Ave Maria from various eras and composers under the vaults of the Rīga Dome Cathedral, along with lovely Baroque arias. Christmas will be enjoyed under candelight as the RIX piano quartet will join together with diva Inga Kalna to present its visions of sound.

A surprise will be a jazz arrangement of Peter Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, and the culmination of the festival will be a performance of Baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
