Aurēlija Šimkus. Schubert, Beethoven and Liszt

A new star has flashed up in the constellation of Latvian pianism – Aurēlija Šimkus. In October she returned from the International Pianist Competition 11.Kissinger KlavierOlypmp, where she had been the youngest competitor,  having won the 3rd prize. At the age of 15 Aurēlija can pride herself in a solo album relased by the German label Ars Produktion. The album “Scherzo” has already gained approving words in German and Austrian press: “What a debut! Her performance demonstrates the richness of sensitive touch and nuances that are manifested in both a powerful sonority and warmhearted gentleness. This debut album is a great announcement. In five years she will be at the very top.” In the opening concert of the festival in the Great Guild Hall Aurēlija will offer the audience J. S. Bach’s Contrapunctus from “The Art of Fugue” that, being the highest achievement of Bach’s poliphone sound pattern, is performed very seldom in Latvian concert halls; Sonata No. 18 by Beethoven and three opuses for piano by Schubert.
