EUROPEAN CHRISTMAS. HANDEL'S SOLOMON
Oratorio “Solomon” by George Frideric Handel has been quite seldom performed not only in Latvian but also in world’s concert halls, and therefore, one should not miss the opportunity to listen to this large-scale beautiful opus. In Act 1 we meet Solomon in the bliss of love, and the atmosphere is intensified by the famous Nightingale Chorus. Act 2 reveals Solomon’s wise revelations, but in Act 3 we meet the legendary Queen of Sheba – the act is introduced by the brisk and popular fanfare sounds announcing the arrival of the Queen, which almost everyone can hum, and after passionate intricacies the oratorio concludes with promulgation of peace and homage to the kingdoms of both of the prominent rulers.
The conductor will be the young Estonian maestro Risto Joost, well-recognized and respected in Latvia, who is an excellent and enthusiastic specialist of the 18th century music. His colleagues in this performance will be English singers Anna Dennis and Simon Wall, Estonian soloists Kädy Plaas and Teele Jõks, Australian counter tenor Christopher Field and the Englan-based Latvian bass Pauls Putniņš, as well as Estonian collectives – the choir Voces musicales Tallinn once formed by Risto Jost, and Tallinn Baroque Orchestra.
