New York Voices and Latvian Radio Big Band
New York Voices – winners of several Grammy Awards, world jazz grandees – perform together with the Latvian Radio Big Band in Riga. A fantastic jazz programme, vital energy, vehement performance and genuine jazz delight.
America – motherland of jazz –– and Latvia will meet on the same stage in Riga Concert House on December 6, within the frames of the Festival “European Christmas”. The Latvian Radio Big Band will be joined by one of the world’s best jazz vocal groups New York Voices, winners of the Grammy Award. The broad musical range of New York Voices in their seven studio albums include classical, R&B (a music genre combining elements of jazz, gospels and blues), jazz and pop music. The group has been travelling all around the world already for 20 years, and they have performed in world’s most famous concert halls.
Portal AllAboutJazz.com writes: „One even need not be a fanatic jazz fan to be able to estimate this ensemble. Arrangements created by this group, their vital energy and passionate performance raise them on the top level. It is no wonder that when four extremely talented vocalists meet in one group, this leads to an unforgettable experience of listening to vocal and instrumental music.”
Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild: “With perfectly elaborated and serious attitude in their performance and their scenic posture New York Voices make their audience believe that everything has been created with playful ease – it seems so free and easy.”
„Latvian Radio Big Band is a great achievement for our culture,” says Raimonds Pauls, patron of the big band. The big band, having been restored in 2012, persistently continues the creative quest in cooperation with world class musicians and vocalists. Currently the big band has managed to form internationally important cooperation with several world-famous jazz grandees. The outstanding Swedish trumpeter Lasse Lindgren is a participant of the big band. The Latvian Radio Big Band has performed also with the legendary American jazz vocalist Kurt Elling and the prominent Italian jazz diva Roberta Gambarini. Roberta has noted that the performance of the Latvian Radio Big Band and its soloists was overwhelming. “Latvian Radio Big Band is superb! This big band deserves stable and brilliant future,” noted Kurt Elling. Pianist and arranger Laurence Hobgood has acknowledged that “in common work the big band was open and unbiased concerning the revival of musical performance. Not all big bands can cope with this.”
